Combat Games Meeting Hailed a Success

May 2, 2017

The world recognized Combat Sports and Martial Arts IF leaders convened for the Combat Games meeting under the leadership of the Combat Games Commission. The meeting, held on the 6th of April during the SportAccord Convention was hailed a huge success with the World Combat Games set to return in 2019 after the show of overwhelming support by the international federations.

Commission Chairman, SportAccord/ GAISF Vice President, and IFMA General Secretary Stephan Fox reported that very keen and positive feedback was received from the questionnaire sent prior to the meeting, with the next step being the fine tuning of the event format. The Commission has received strong proposals from a number of bidding cities, whose representatives were in attendance of the SAC 2017, and the next IF Forum in Lausanne will see the next meeting for more decisions to be made.

Mr Fox was quoted:

“The Combat Games have held two successful editions already in Beijing and St. Petersburg and remain a valuable event for both Olympic and non-Olympic recognised Combat sports and Martial Arts. For the non-Olympic, it gives the athletes a great opportunity to be together with the Olympic athletes and for the Olympic sports, it also gives an opportunist to showcase some of their non-Olympic disciplines.”

“The working group would like to renew with the initial spirit of the Combat Games at the heart of which is a combination of martial arts, combat sports and their rich history and culture.
